The KO players entered into today’s match against Greenwich Country Day School (GCDS) short-handed with 3 starters out and overall 5 players unavailable. However, the players were undaunted and came out playing with a high energy level, matching GCDS’s size and athleticism. GCDS was able to take advantage of a poorly cleared ball and score 25 minutes into the first half. KO was able to get to halftime training by only 1 goal with GK Lizzie Raccio making 4 saves in the half. KO came out of halftime with renewed energy and a commitment to maintain possession. Naya DeMelo, Loren Roca, and Mackenzie Cahill were able to control the center of the field while Serena Zhou and Olivia Adamowicz were creating dangerous chances up front. Finally with 6 minutes left in the game, KO was able to tie the score off a corner kick. Loren Roca served a perfectly placed ball in the box and Serena Zhou was able to rise above the defenders and head the ball into the corner for a phenomenal goal. KO had 2 more chances to win the game but GCDS’s GK was able to keep the ball out of the net. Defenders Giuliana Fuzzard, Taylor Caldwell, Ari Salek, and Nadia Silmon were outstanding, limiting chances by the goal. KO next plays Taft on Wednesday with the hope of finishing the season strong with improved play.
