Soccer – Girls Varsity vs Hopkins School – Away

V Girls Soccer

The KO girls traveled to New Haven to face Hopkins in hope of gaining a much needed win. KO dominated play from the opening kick off and at the 10 minute mark Nadia Silmon found Naya DeMelo 18 yards in front of the goal. Naya deftly beat the defender and found the back of the goal to put KO up 1-0. Five minutes later, Serena Zhou was racing down the flank, stopped and found Nadia in front of the goal who beat the GK easily increasing KO’s lead to 2-0. Hopkins was then able to gain some possession and create some dangerous play, however, Giuliana Fuzzard was a fortress in back as the last defender thwarting any serious shot on goal. As the half was ending, Naomi Diffenderfer was able to win the ball, beat 3 defenders and send a perfect pass to Serena who buried the ball into the corner giving KO a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Hopkins began the second half full of energy and controlled play leading to a foul in the box. They converted their penalty kick lessening KO’s lead to 3-1. KO was able to get momentum back as Naomi again beat multiple defenders sending a shot that was saved by the GK but Loren Roca was able to put the rebound in to again put KO up again by 3 goals. Hopkins scored a second goal but KO was able to maintain the lead by playing good team defense and win 4-2. Along with Giuliana, Gianna Guerrerra, Ari Salek, and Taylor Caldwell were excellent in the back. Mackenzie Cahill and Olivia Adamowicz worked hard all game outworking Hopkins. Lizzie Raccio only needed to make 4 saves. KO plays home against Hotchkiss on Saturday.
