KO matched up against Class “A” Hotchkiss today and lost 5-0. However the score was not indicative of the play during the game. KO came out with incredible energy, creating multiple opportunities to take the lead. Midfielders Naya DeMelo, Mackenzie Cahill, and Loren Roca were able to find forwards Naomi Diffenderfer, Serena Zhou, and Nadia Silmon time after time in the first 20 minutes. However, KO could not find the back of the net despite the dangerous chances they created. Hotchkiss on the other hand made their chances count as they scored on all 3 of their shots on goal in the first half taking a 3-0 lead. KO had a chance to draw closer as Naomi Diffenderfer crushed a shot at the top of the box only to see it hit the crossbar. KO did have a couple more chances to score but it was not their day. Hotchkiss being bigger, stronger and more athletic was able to wear down KO and solidify their win with 2 more goals in the second half. Despite the disappointment, the young KO team was able to hang their hat on challenging Hotchkiss for 80 minutes and finding success in certain areas during the game. KO plays Rye Country Day School on Wednesday at home.
