Hard Fought Loss To Loomis
The KO girls hosted Founders League powerhouse Loomis Chaffee Wednesday afternoon. Loomis came out very aggressively trying to get an early score but defenders Nadia Silmon, Analeigh Sayestih, Giuliana Fuzzard, and Gianna Guerrera were impenetrable. KO’s team defending held up and the attack began to gain momentum with Maliyah Douglas, Ali Hogan, and Olivia Adamowicz creating more possession. However, with about 15 minutes left in the first half, Loomis was awarded a penalty kick which narrowly got by KO goalkeeper Lizzie Raccio who made a valiant effort. The first half ended with Loomis leading 1-0. The second half started with an energized KO team led by midfielders Naya DeMelo, Sofia Guerrera, Mackenzie Cahill, Ari Salek, and Eliana Beakal. With 18 minutes left in the game, Sydney St. Clair was able to win the ball and pass the ball to Ali Hogan out wide who then crossed the ball to Naya DeMelo. After controlling the ball, she was able to shoot the ball for a beautiful goal and tie the score at 1-1. This seemed to wake up Loomis as they began to control play. With about 13 minutes left in the game, Loomis was able to take the lead back 2-1 off a header on a corner kick. KO was unable to find enough possession to find the equalizer for the rest of the game. Goalkeepers Lizzie Raccio and Penelope Ahern played very well turning away multiple chances. Despite the loss, KO showed incredibly well against a top “A” team and will be looking to build on this game against Suffield Academy on Saturday.
