KO Girls Play to a Scoreless Tie vs Suffield Academy
The KO girls hosted a strong Suffield Academy today with the hope of showing well and continuing their impressive play of late. As expected, Suffield used their size and speed to try to get an early goal but goalkeeper Lizzie Raccio spectacularly turned away 2 shots keeping the score 0-0. That was the score at halftime as defenders Giuliana Fuzzard, Analeigh Sayestih, Gianna Guerrera, Nadia Silmon, and Ari Salek were up to the task of keeping Suffield off the ball. KO was able to maintain possession more in the second half due to the excellent play of midfielders Naya DeMelo, Mackenzie Cahill, Sofia Guerrera–they were able to create chances on goals for forwards Maliyah Douglas, Olivia Adamowicz, Ali Hogan, Syd St. Clair, and Brianna Gerster. Maliyah was able to hit a clean shot that looked to be going in but contacted the crossbar and bounced away for the other attackers. But it was not meant to be as the game ended 0-0. Penelope Ahern played goalkeeper in the second half for KO and was steady, keeping another clean sheet for her and Lizzie. This was a true team effort as KO was able to secure a point with the tie. Next game is home against Kent where KO is hoping to get back in the win column.
