Varsity Girls Squash
The KO Girls Varsity Squash team had a 6-1 loss at home against Taft, with each player raising their level to go toe to toe with a skilled opponent. In. the no. 1 spot, Valerie Perkins ’29 effectively managed height on her cross courts and deception in her attacks at the front of the court. In the no. 2 spot, Clara Toomey ’27 traded off cross court battles with deftly executed straight drop shots, expanding her opponent’s court coverage and playing better each game. In the no. 3 spot, co-captain Sanya Sadiq ’26 challenged her opponent with deep straight drives and a forward-moving court position that allowed her to go on the offensive. In the no. 5 position, Nina Mattamana ’30 had a real back-and-forth battle that showcased her trademark volley drop kills alongside her ever more powerful straight drives that set her up for the put-away. In. the no. 6 spot, Racheal Segal ’28 used her strong serve and wide, high cross courts to take control of the points and challenge her opponent each step of the way. In. the no. 7 spot, Ava Patel ’28 incorporated well-timed drop shots with her stellar cross courts for a display of complex, elevated squash. In the no. 8 spot, Riya Sekaran ’28 was ready with both power in her ground strokes and precision in her returns. The performance of the day came from co-captain Lia Prahl ’26, who was steadfast in her ability to put pressure on her opponent and pounce on offensive opportunities, whether they were low, short kills or deep cross courts into the back. Prahl had a 3-0 win that really inspired the rest of the team! Let’s go, KOSQ!
