Swimming & Diving – Boys Varsity vs Hopkins School, – Away

It was the first meet of the new season, and our Wyverns traveled to The Hopkins School in New Haven to see how well they were going to do.
On the boysβ side, in the 200-yard Medley Relay, Ethan Brown (β20), Ellis Winfree (β19), Jamie Amell (β20) and Kyle Zimmerman (β18) posted a second-place finishing time of 1:48.29, a mere 2 seconds off of the leader from Hopkins. They were followed in fourth place by Ben Zamstein (β20), Tom Betts (β19), Kian Issari (β18) and Carter Castanza (β18), with a finishing time of 1:58.88. In the 200-yard Freestyle, Tim Petit (β18) took first place, with a winning time of 1:54.81, narrowly beating out the second-place swimmer by a mere .02 seconds! Co-Captain Jaron Stake (β18) placed fourth, with a finishing time of 2:05.45, and Zamstein came in fifth with a time of 2:11.00. Amell grabbed second place in the 200-yard Individual Medley, going 2:21.64, and he was able to stave off the third-place finisher by .42 seconds. Zimmerman finished the same race, posting a fourth-place finish with a time of 2:22.10. In the always exciting 50-yard Freestyle (a sprinterβs dream race!), Winfree came in second, with a time of 24.02, Nick Traver (β20) posted a fourth-place finish at 25.38, and co-captain Harry Krause (β18) went 25.60 for fifth. The field of swimmers was separated by less than 4 seconds across the board. In the 1-meter diving event, Castanza took the first-place finish, with 171.45 points, followed by Eli Brandt (β23) in second place (149.20 points), and Issari in third, with 136.05 points. Winfree took second place in the 100-yard Butterfly, posting a time of 1:01.41, and Issari took fourth, going 1:11.83. Petit came back strong to go second in the 100-yard Freestyle (51.54), Krause posted a fourth place at 57.26, and Traver went 59.73 to grab sixth. Co-captain Kevin Augustine (β18) came in seventh with a time of 1:01.39. Ethan Brown easily won the grueling 500-yard Freestyle, with a finishing time of 4:54.39, breaking that all-elusive barrier of 5 minutes, and Felix Fei (β21) posted a time of 6:42.70. In the boysβ 200-yard Freestyle relay, KO took the event in a stunning come-from-behind finish that left the team screaming and cheering. Krause, Traver, Zimmerman and Issari grabbed the winning slot with a time of 1:40.51, beating the second-place finishers by only .33 seconds, and it was the most exciting race of the entire day for our boys! Brown handily won the 100-yard Backstroke, beating the next swimmer by 2 seconds, and Amell grabbed second place in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a finishing time of 1:07.39. Our Wyvern boys finished their meet, taking second place in the 4 x 100-yard Freestyle relay, with a time of 3:48.01, a full 11 seconds ahead of the third place team, and Nick Spina (β19), Marwynn Somridhivej (β20), Augustine and Eden Nenshati (β21) grabbed a six-place finish in the same event, with a finishing time of 4:33.43. Well done, gentlemen!
