Boys Varsity Swim & Dive

On the boys’ side at this meet, there were a few really close races, and our gentlemen carried themselves well in the face of a surprisingly strong Lions’ team this season.

To open the meet, KO grabbed the second place finish in the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.62, just 1.5 seconds off the Kent A Relay team. Our team consisted of Ethan Brown (’20), Jamie Amell (’20), Ellis Winfree (’19) and Kyle Zimmerman (’18). In the 200-yard Freestyle event, Tim Petit (’18) took first place (1:54.59), followed by Nick Traver (’20) at 2:00.00 and co-captain Jaron Stake (’18) at 2:01.00. Only 4 seconds separated second from sixth places in this event. Ethan Brown (’20) grabbed first place in the 200-yard Individual Medley going 2:04.82, cruising a full 9 seconds ahead of the second place finisher from Kent! Amell came in with fourth place (2:21.46), and Tom Betts (’19) took fifth place with a finishing time of 2:24.08. In the 50-yard Freestyle sprint event, Winfree had his hands full, with a very strong squad from Kent, yet he managed to grab third place with a finishing time of :23.55. Co-captain Harry Krause (’18) came in fifth with a finishing time of :24.99, and Carter Castanza (’18) grabbed sixth with a time of :25.65. The top six swimmers in the event were all separated by less than 3 seconds across the board. Castanza finished in second place in the 1-meter springboard diving event, scoring 183.30 points, narrowly missing first place by only .10 at the end. Winfree swam beautifully to win the 100-yard Butterfly, taking the first spot with a time of :57.92, breaking the 1-minute mark in a very fast field. Kian Issari (’18) took fifth with a time of 1:02.45, and Felix Fei (’21) snuck into sixth with a time of 1:04.10. Petit was nudged out in the exciting 100-yard Freestyle, taking second place with a finishing time of :50.75, only .58 seconds behind the leader from Kent. Traver placed fifth with a time of :55.00, and Krause grabbed sixth, going :56.05. In the distance event, the 500-yard Freestyle, Zimmerman and Stake took first and second, going 5:34.77 and 5:35.23, respectively, making the whole thing look so easy. Fei was in the sixth slot with a time of 6:10.12. Our 200-yard Relay teams grabbed second, fourth and fifth places to rack up some more points, and in the 100-yard Backstroke, Brown took a first place, going :56.17 to win by over two seconds. Amell fought and won a battle for first place in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a finishing time of 1:08.45, and Betts took third (1:11.26), with Zimmerman taking fifth (1:11.87). In the 4 x 100-yard Freestyle relay, our Wyverns took a clean first place by two seconds, finishing with a time of 3:29.82. Our B Relay team of co-captain Kevin Augustine (’18), Fei, Stake and Traver took fourth place (3:53.05), and our C Relay team of Eden Nenshati (’21), Owen Chambers (’21), Nick Spina (’19) and Marwynn Somridhivej (’20) took fifth, with a time of 4:02.24. Despite the 13-point spread for our Wyverns, they swam a very strong meet, and they are looking forward to hosting the St. George’s School and the Winsor School on Saturday, February 4th at Trinity College. Go Wyverns!
