Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Avon Old Farms School – Away

As was the case last year, this match involved two equally matched teams. Fortunately, we had our best day of the season that resulted in a 5-0 win that does not reflect the competitive nature of the match. KO jumped out to a 1-0 lead with impressive victories at #1 and #2 doubles. Concepcion and Blair played lights out en route to an 8-0 win at #1, and Reddy and Shobola played their best match of the season to earn an 8-4 victory. AOF won a closely contested match at #3, edging out Gaddapati and Barash by a score 0f 8-6. Moving on to singles, we anticipated that it would be super competitive, and that is exactly what it was.Ciaran Concepcion fought off a great comeback by his opponent in the first set to ultimately win in a tiebreaker (7-1), and then played exceptionally well in the second set (6-0). At #2 Pratt Blair had to play well against a talented freshman, coming out on top by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Fresh off of a remarkable comeback win against Choate, Isaiah Shobola carried the momentum and confidence on his way to a 7-5, 6-3 win at #3 . Saahit Gaddipati played his steadiest tennis of the season at #5, emerging with a 7-5, 6-1 win. The other two singles matches had to be pulled due to the late hour and the fact that the team total had been clinched. At #6, Logan Barash was in a hard fought match, up 6-3, 5-4, and at #4 Neil Reddy was down 5-7, 1-0. Remarkably, four matches finished before Reddy and his opponent had finished their first set. Next up is an away match on Wednesday vs. Frederick Gunn.
