Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Berkshire School – Home
Varsity Boys Tennis
On Friday afternoon, we hosted Coach Mike Bjurlin’s Berkshire team for a late match.
Due to the late start and the league tournament scheduled for the next morning at 8:45, we agreed to play singles first, and only play the doubles if the match was tied 3-3 after singles. KO jumped out to wins at #1 and # 2, as William Appleton (‘18) and Adam Na (‘21) played impressively in straight sets wins. Adam Sonntag and Avi Shastri clinched the match with wins of their own at #3 and #4 respectively. Both squads then turned their attention to the two outdoor matches at #5 and # 6. At # 5, KO’s Nat Bates (‘18) was in a lengthy match that pitted two evenly matched opponents. They split sets, and the 3rd set supertiebreaker was 11-9 ! Even though Nat lost the match, he played with great determination and sportsmanship, as he always does. At #6, KO’s Adam Ovian dropped a close first 6-3, and then fought hard but came up short in the 2nd set. He too played with class, and represented KO in the classiest of ways.
The 4-2 victory puts the team at 9-3 heading into our last regular season match vs. Salisbury this Wednesday. It is senior day, as we will recognize William Appleton, Nat Bates, and Adam Ovian for all of their hard work and commitment to KO tennis.
