Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Gunnery School – Away

Boys Varsity Tennis

We traveled to Washington, CT on a cold day with just enough wind to make it feel that much colder. Both coaches agreed to play singles first, as there was another match scheduled after ours. There were some lengthy matches, and by the time they ended, it was late and the doubles was not necessary because fortunately we had secured a 4-2, hard fought win. Everyone played one spot up in the lineup, which was a challenge that the guys stepped up to meet. In particular, Noah Sadowsky jumped into the #6 spot and earned a convincing straight sets win (6-1, 6-1). Neil Reddy, playing on an adjacent court, also won in straight sets ( 6-3, 6-1 ), at the #3 spot. The other four matches were played on their upper courts, which are a har-tru (also called “green clay”) surface. It is a slower surface, and our guys adjusted well to the different surface. In particular, Saahit Gaddipati played exceptionally at well at #4 , en route to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Pratt Blair was also on top of his game, earning a 6-2, 6-0 win at the top spot. At #5, Logan Barash ran up against a very steady, smart tactician. After falling behind 6-1, 5-1, Logan came roaring back to force a tiebreaker but ultimately lost the second set 7-6. The last match standing was at #2, as KO’s Isaiah Shobola had a back and forth match with numerous momentum swings. After jumping out to a 5-2 lead, his opponent battled back to take the first set 7-5. Isaiah responded by winning the seond set 6-4, only to drop a close supertiebreaker 10-8. It was a tough loss, but he made his opponent earn it, and at the end of the day it shows that tennis is a team sport because we emerged with a 4-2 team win. Both teams showed poise and sportsmanship, which was great to see. Next up is a home match vs. Westminster school on Monday.April 27th.
