Tennis – Boys Varsity vs Hotchkiss School – Away
Varsity Boys Tennis
Saturday’s match at Hotchkiss was a late start (3:30) due to the SATs, and we knew that it would be an incredibly close, competitive match against an always tough opponent.
We had a sense that the score would be 4-3, one way or the other, because the two teams are about as evenly matched as two teams can be.
This prediction was quite accurate, as KO earned a 4-3 win that eventually came down to a 3rd set super tiebreaker at #3 singles for the decisive 4th point. KO’s Adam Na (’21) prevailed in a 6-3. 5-7, 10-7 marathon in a match that did not end until nearly 7:00. Both Na and his opponent played high level tennis with both teams watching. KO jumped out to a 1-0 lead after earning a well deserved doubles point as William Appleton and Luke Riemann defeated a talented Hotchkiss duo at #1 doubles, and then Adam Sonntag (’19) and Max William Kanz (’22) clinched the point with a win at #2 doubles. At #3 doubles, Na and Avi Shastri (’20) got off to a slow start, and clawed back only to lose 8-5.
In singles, Luke Riemann earned a straight sets win at #1, Max William Kanz did the same at #5 singles, and Na’s win at #3 secured the 4th point. William Appleton (#2), Adam Sonntag (#4) and Avi Shastri (#6) were defeated by opponents who played quite well. It was an exciting day, and we did not return to KO until nearly 8:15. Next up is another perennial New England power, Taft, on Tuesday at KO.
