JV Volleyball
KO JVVB finished their season with a win against Canterbury at home 3-0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-10). It was Senior Day. Co-captain Sienna DuBois ’26, who has been a member of the team for four years, was honored by her coaches and her teammates. in his pre-game speech, Coach McDonald told the players: “If you’re looking for a reason to play your absolute best volleyball of the season today, do it for Sienna.” His keys for the match conveniently spelled the name Sienna:
S–Strong Start. Take a lead early in the first game and fight to keep it.
I—Intensity. Be focused and aggressive. Do everything with a purpose. Serve to your intended target, hit or tip away from their passers, pass to our setters 3 ft. off the net, and anticipate where Canterbury is going to hit the ball so you can get in position.
E-Energy. Get yourselves psyched up and be the loudest team in our gym.
N–No Way. There’s no way Canterbury is going to win this match!
N–Never let a ball drop on our side of the court, never forget to call the ball when you pass, never get down on yourself or your team, and never give up on a play, if one of our passes goes wild.
A–Always support your teammates if they make a mistake, always remember how lucky you are to be playing volleyball today, always think about how you can terminate a play and win the point and always be ready to do your job with everything you’ve got.
And the players did what was asked of them! Of particular note were the 13 (!) aces earned by Evelyn Nelson ‘ 28 and the 4 each from Aniajah Sanchez ’28 DuBois. and Amelia Anstead ’29, and the 8 kills from Tara Mahoney ’27 from strong setting from Racheal Segal ’27 and Jahnvi Modi ‘ 29.
It was a great way to end a wonderful season for the KO JV VB team.
