JV Volleyball v Hopkins
The Kingswood Oxford JV girls volleyball team dazzled spectators in their first match of the season defeating the Hopkins Hilltoppers 3 sets to 2 in Soby gym on Tuesday evening.
The match lasted over two hours and the win was an amazing display of teamwork, resilience, discipline and skill. Senior captains Jenna Mick 18’ and Gabrielle Ruban 18’ lead the team on the court with impressive digs and consistent serving and kept the team focused and motivated on the bench, between games and during timeouts.
In their debut for the Wyverns, newcomers Erika Watson 20’, Rinese Sterling 21’, Hannah Rowland 21’, Olivia Pear 21’ and Kayla Danler 21’ brought extraordinary energy to the squad and contributed important plays from the service line, at the net and in the back row. However, KO could not have achieved the victory without the experience, decision making and outstanding play of returners Justine Strom 18’, Josie Pinero 20’ and Esha Kataria 20’ who each came through with key passes that rattled Hopkins offense.
Additionally, several players stood out for outstanding individual performances. Sophomore Trinity Hudson 20’ was fierce at the net notching some big hits. But it was the junior class of Tally Holcombe 19’, Brigid Bernier 19’, Erin Bowen 19’ and Olivia Coxon 19’ whose confidence and control propelled the team’s offense and defense. Specifically, Holcombe’s powerful serving and fearless digs and Bernier’s passing and athleticism allowed the team to rally and attack their opponents. While, Bowen’s block and hit late in the game and Coxon’s serves in the last set energized the team and insured the win.
