Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs School of the Holy Child – Away
KOVB travelled to Rye NY this Saturday to take on the Gryphons of School of the Holy Child.
In our inaugural trip to play Holy Child, KO wasn’t sure what to expect–but we were ready to make it a worthwhile trip. It took a few minutes for KO to find its groove, after falling behind 6-2 at the start of the first set. With Sydney Smith taking the service line, KO was able to pull ahead from 7-8 to be up 12-8. From there, the momentum of the match stayed on KO’s side of the court until the third set. Set three saw KO behind for most of the set. With KO down 18-22, Isa Raymond stepped up to the service line and turned up the heat. With a combination of strong serving by Raymond, strong KO offense, and never quit defensive play by the entire team, KO was able to rally 7 points in a row to secure the win in 3 sets. While some great blocks by Middle Hitter Kathryn Westrick, strong passing by Right Side Hitter Madi Henry, and strong hitting by Outside Hitter Sydney Smith were keys to the match, this was truly a full-team effort as all players contributed to the win. After being out from a shoulder injury, the team was excited to welcome setter Emma Henry back to competition as she anchored our offense in sets 2 and 3. KOVB is ready to tackle the busiest and most challenging stretch of our season, beginning this Monday as we travel to Cheshire Academy to make up our match from 10/5, look forward to a rematch at home this coming Wednesday against Suffield Academy, and face Miss Porters at home next Saturday.
