Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs Suffield Academy – Away

Loss 1-3

The KO Varsity Volleyball team had a tough 3-1 loss in a rematch against Suffield, this time at Suffield. The first set made it clear that it was going to be a close fight between the two teams, with one long point after another. Alex Segal ‘25 started the game off strong with thoroughly struck serves over the net, and co-captain Ava Cashman ‘24 was powerfully propelling the ball to open areas of the opponent’s court from the outside while Lola Peck ‘26 played aggressive in the middle.. Suffield put pressure on KO with mid-court attacks, many of which were saved by diving moves from co-captain Allie Arcaro ‘24 and quick lunging passes from Lila Klinzmann ‘27. After battling back and forth through the middle of the set, Suffield took the lead in some key points and won the set. In the second set, the Wyverns regrouped, this time with co-captain Jillian Alexander ‘24 and Chloe Delaire ‘27 leading the charge with tricky attacks from the middle. Francesca Lamattina ‘25 an absolute defensive powerhouse in the back row, making several diving saves and split-second reactions to neutralize strong hitting from the opponent. KO’s scrappy defense came in handy, and they powered through long points to take the set. In the third set, both teams put their defensive strengths on showcase, digging in for a grueling contest to outlast the other team. Cashman was getting creative on the outside to circumvent the opponent’s blocks, and Alexander found a groove with her tips in the middle. Klinzmann and Delaire strung together some spectacular plays to send the ball careening into the gaps. Suffield narrowly pulled ahead and won the set, sending the game into a fourth. The fourth set displayed the grit of the Wyvern’s, with each bit of momentum earned as the team pushed forward. It really was a nail-biter of a finish, coming down to a few key points that Suffield took with consistent defensive play. We look forward to our next game, a night game against Miss Porter’s on 11/27!
