Volleyball – Girls Varsity vs Wilbraham & Monson Academy – Away

Varsity Volleyball v WMA

KOVVB loses to Wilbraham & Monson Academy 2-3 (25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 13-15).

Another exciting 5-set match took place on Saturday, as KO traveled to MA to take on WMA. KO came out strong, with consistent serves, solid passing, and effective hitting. In the second set, as WMA’s offense came alive, so did KO’s defensive passing with Amiya Young as a standout in the back row. While the lead going back and forth, KO couldn’t close the second or third set although numerous points were scored off aces from Co-captain Skylar Barron and Haley Gervino and excellent hustle from Barron and Sydney Smith was in display, chasing down balls and passing well off a powerful WMA attack. Co-captain Emma Smith started the fourth set off with 5 straight points off her serve. Her sister, Sydney, scored points off her down the line shot and Isa Raymond was effective against a big block on the right side. KO worked well together as a team to get the job done, with some help on the serving line from Emma Henry at the end of the game, and push on to a fifth and final set. Despite great playing and communication, KO couldn’t hold the lead against a strong serve. The highlight of the last set was a big block by Emma Smith and Madison Henry against WMA’s big outside hitter! Next week, KOVVB will play back to back in Wednesday and Thursday, against Ethel Walker and Suffield.
