KO Hosts Public Speaking Tournament

Forensic Union's public speaking tournament hosted at KO this weekend was an overwhelming success! The following schools participated in the event: Roxbury Latin, Choate, St. Sebastian's, Northfield Mount Hermon, and Stoneleigh Burnham. The Wyvern team worked hard and gave spirited performances.

Advisor to the team, Michelle Schloss said that Janvi Sikand ’19, Elan Stadelmann ’20, Jane Liang ’21, and Charlie Coxon ’19, prepared impressive speeches for the tournament. Their average team score earned them second place team, only three points behind Roxbury Latin. Further congratulations are to be extended to Stadelmann, who won second place in Impromptu Speaking (by coming up on the spot with, among other ingenious tangents, a historical account of the invention of puppets), and Coxon, who won Top Novice of the day! (If you can believe it, Coxon, a mainstay in KO's theater program, is a novice to the competitive world. As a senior, he competed in his first ever public speaking tournament this weekend!)

Our tireless Forensic Union officers are also to be commended for their hard work organizing the tournament, especially our seniors Dan Carroll ’19, Thomas Betts ’19, Elise Gendrich ’19, Katie Brough ’19, and again, Sikand, who helped prep the tournament and competed in it! All of them made sure that our tournament would run smoothly.

We also had a group of Forensic Union members who volunteered to orchestrate and time each round, including Geethika Chandragiri ’21, Maggie Eberle ’20, Shrinaath Narasimhan ’22, Samhita Kashyap ’22, Elsa June Ciscel ’22, and Chaitanya Karanam ’21.
Many thanks are also due to a small but mighty army who pitched in to make this tournament a success, including teachers Ted Levine and Kyle Reynolds, who served as judges; Brian Woerlen and his team at Sage Dining, who prepared a delicious brunch for our competitors; and Larry Marciano
and Dean Bellmay, who made sure that the buildings were ready to accommodate all of our guests.
