Taking his game up a notch just as the season reaches a critical stretch, Kingswood Oxford varsity golf captain Garth Swanson ’19 is the Wyvern of the Week.
Swanson carded a 2-under-par 34 at Quinnatisset CC last Wednesday against  Pomfret in KO's 195-201 victory. He followed that up Saturday at the Ledges GC with a 1-under 35 helping the Wyverns to a 188 team score, and defeating Loomis (200), Choate (203), and Williston (210).
“This season I feel I have improved all around as a golfer,” Swanson said. “At the start of every season there is always a learning curve after taking the entire winter season off without swinging a club, its always interesting to see what parts of my game need improvement after the off season and this year it was all of them.”
A senior and a captain, Swanson has had to embrace a different role this season and become more invested in his teammates.
“As a captain this season, my role has changed slightly from last season. Last season I wasn't as team oriented as I am this season, I was more focused on my individual score,” Swanson said. “This season I am more focused on how the team is doing and just trying to help my teammates as best I can.”

“Garth's been great. He's one of our captains and when we started slowly, he kept the group on track,” Kingswood Oxford coach Scott Dunbar. “He's been a regular in the lineup since Form Four, played a couple of matches as a Third Former. He enjoys the individual challenge of golf and the team dynamic. He has a good sense of when to laugh and when to be serious. The kids respect his talents and his friendship.”
