The girls’ and boys’ swimming and diving team recently swam in the Founders League Championship and found success across the scoreboard. The swimming competition took place at Miss Porters School on Saturday, Feb. 29 and the diving component took place at Choate on Wednesday, February 26.
In the girls’ competition, Leyao Cheng ‘21 dropped two seconds in the 200 free, Lily Liu ‘22 dropped three seconds in the 100 free and Charlotte Eberle ‘23 dropped almost a second in the 100 free. Allie Wildstein '22 and Risha Ranjan '21 both had very strong 500 freestyle times that set them up very well for New Englands. Hannah Krause ‘23 had over a one-second drop in the 500 free and Sophia Brunali ‘23 dropped almost five seconds in the 100 backstroke.
Coach Megan Farrell said, “The girls are focused and can't wait to race again. They are excited to finish off practices this week and head up to Vermont for New Englands.”
The boys’ team has been breaking records left and right. The 200 medley relay team of Will Layden '20, Jamie Amell '20. Waler Kraus '21 and Ben Zamstein '20 broke their own school record, placing fifth with a new time of 1:41.03. Layden also won the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. The 200-yard relay of Marwynn Somridhivej '20, Walter Kraus '21, Marrich Somridhivej '22, and Nick Traver '20 took third place in the competition and earned a medal. Eli Brandt '23 took first place in the diving competition, scoring over 30 points on ten of his eleven dives.
Coach Alex Kraus is proud of the boys for continuing to work hard and raise the level of competition. He said, “The teams swam well throughout the day as they supported one another with good energy and enthusiasm.”
