Emma Henry ‘21 was recently awarded the Congressional Award Gold Medal and was the only recipient from the state of Connecticut. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans, and participants must meet goals in four program areas. In order to qualify for a gold medal, students must complete 400 hours of voluntary service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness, and complete a five-day expedition.
Henry’s work as part of Team Tobati, her summer job teaching sailing and studying marine biology, her participation as a student-athlete on Kingswood Oxford sports teams, and a winter trip to rural Vermont qualified her for the medal.
Typically gold medal winners are invited to receive their medals in a ceremony at the United States Capitol, but due to Covid restrictions, this year honorees will receive their recognition in the mail. Congratulations Emma!
