Students Vote on Naming School Store

Jacqueline Pisani
Although most of the KO students are under the legal age to vote in the national election, that doesn't mean that they can't engage in the democratic process and excercise their right to vote. In thiscase, very high stakes were involved: the naming of the soon-to-open school store.
At last week's assembly students and faculty were given three names to select to become the official name of the store. The names included Wyvern Wares, KO & Co. and The KO-Op. Store Manager, Sheri Slobin Shea and Juan Martinez created a Google form that was sent to the student body and staff to choose the name. 493 individuals cast their ballots in this pitched battle. The break down of votes was third place The KO-Op with 120 votes (24.3%), second place Wyvern Wares wih 177 votes (35.9%) and first place winner, KO & Co. narrowly beating out the contender with 196 votes (39.8%).  As of this point, no one is contesting the results of the race. Although all grades and staff participated in the voting process, faculty and Form 3 showed a particularly strong voter turn out
Located near the entrance of the Seaverns Building, the store is stocked with the newly branded KO swag featuring Under Armour capri leggings, UA 1/4 zip shirts, UA soccer pants fleecewear, sweat shirts, and hoodies. Smaller items include pompom hats, baseball caps, socks, hair ties and dri-fit head bands. Shea made certain to have a range of products at different price points so that all the students in the community would be able to purchase KO branded ware. Shea has plans to sell Vineyard Vines shep shirts and D-ring belts in the near future as well as other unique items for the well-dressed KO student.
The store will be open this Thursday, November 10 from 8:00 - 4:00 during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Store hours are Monday 3:00-5:00, Wednesday 12:00-2:00, Thursday 7:45-9:00 and PLB on Friday.
KO& Co. provides retail therapy and school spirit in equal measure. Make sure you get your swag on!
