Candlelight Concert Warms the Soul

The Middle School and Upper School string orchestra, the all women’s Voce Novissima, male and female choir Outlook and the combined choirs and the KO Adult Community Choir performed an array of music. Orchestra Director Richard Chiarappa and Choir Directors David Baker and Steve Mitchell produced the concert, now in its 34th year.
The concert showcased the amazing breadth of talent of the KO students and illustrated the steady progression of musical ability and expression from the Middle School to Upper School performers.  The Middle School students performed convincingly three pieces by Tchaikowsky, Dyson and Mozart, including the rousing holiday crowd-pleaser “Trepak” from The Nutcracker Suite. The Upper School String Orchestra played the exquisite “Barcarolle” from Tales of Hoffman and Handel’s baroque masterpiece, “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba” and featured the extraordinary dexterity of violinists, Ellie Bavier ’18, Prithvi Gunturu ’18 and Prairwaa Madden ’21.
Following the string orchestras, KO’s multiple choirs took the stage. Voce Novissima performed two songs, “Hold Me Rock Me” by Brian Tate and a soulful, traditional American folk tune “Bring Me a Little Water, Sylvie” by “Leadbelly” Ledbetter. Outlook entertained with an energetic “Il Est Bel et Bon” and a beautiful balance of words and music, “Sure, On This Shining Night”, a poem of gratitude and hope by Agee with musical arrangement by Lauridsen. The combined choirs sang the Jewish folk melody, “El Yivneh Hagalil.” Lastly, the evening was capped off with a traditional Italian carol “Dormi, dormi o bel bambin” by the combined choirs and KO Adult Community Choir.
