The varsity boys soccer team traveled to Suffield Academy on Wednesday, Oct. 3 where they were able to pull off a hard fought 1-0 victory. The Wyverns came in fresh to this matchup as their previous two games had been cancelled. At the beginning of the game, the team mounted numerous attacks led by junior Nicholas Hamzavi and senior captain Aidan Shea that resulted in scoring opportunities, but none of those chances materialized. This changed in the 20th minute when freshman Brio Aslan fouled in front of the18 box and referee awarded a free kick. Hamzavi put a hard shot on the keeper of a free kick where the ball rickashayed and junior Nick Traver was able to follow up the shot and head the ball into the net giving the Wyverns a 1-0 advantage. The remainder of the game consisted of tough and impressive play and KO was able to hold onto that 1-0 lead.Junior Kyler Dzielak played a crucial role as he repeditively bailed out his teammates and made sure junior Tim Cotter’s job in net was as easy as possible. Cotter also made a few astounding saves late in the game to help secure the win for the Wyverns. All in all, the entire game was well played as every player left it all on the field, which ultimately helped the boys soccer team keep their undefeated streak alive. The boys varsity soccer team will now play host to Westminster School on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 4:00 pm where they hope and plan to stay undefeated.
