In the spring of 1973, one of Oxford’s popular traditions took place as it had for many years-the Father-Daughter Dinner. 

“It provides the bread winners of the family a chance to take part in the life of the school 

and to, what is often impossible due to busy schedules, spend an enjoyable afternoon 

getting reacquainted with their daughters and friends.” (KO News June 5, 1973)

This event was more than a dinner. It included a softball game, musical selections sung by Oxford’s first formers, and, based on T.V. ‘s Parent Game, a Father-Daughter question & answer period. With the plan for Oxford and Kingswood to merge, the continuance of this tradition was in question at that time. 

After the merger the event continued to carry out its traditions but now awards were given to the girls who contributed the most to her athletic teams. Awards were also given to those girls who participated in athletic clubs such as the Swim Club, Cycling and Mountaineering Club & Track and Field Club. Along with the famous softball game, others played volleyball, frisbee or tennis. Third and Fourth Form “Songsters” sang several songs. 

At the same time, the annual Father-Son Sports Dinner carried on the traditions from Kingswood days. Members of athletic teams who contributed most to their teams received awards not only for their athleticism, but also for sportsmanship and leadership abilities. A “smorgasbord” was enjoyed by all followed by a movie shown by the Film Club. 

In the spring of 1982, for the first time, the name was changed to Sports Banquet, which celebrated both male and female athletic accomplishments and included both mothers and fathers as guests. 

Today, we continue to celebrate the accomplishments of our KO athletes with team banquets and all-school assemblies.
