Student Wins Competitive Dance Scholarship

Frank Pu ‘23 was named the recipient of the Dance Molinari Scholarship. The scholarship provides 12 consecutive weeks of classes, both online and in-person taught by professional dancers and Broadway choreographers, in addition to free workshops. Dance Molinari (DMO) is a world-renowned dance theatre company in New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Chicago training performers of all ages and skill levels in theatre, dance, improv, acrobatics, vocal performance, audition technique, and more. DMO prepares aspiring performers for their Broadway debut, as well as national tours, television, the music industry movies/films, and commercials. Dance Molinari transforms dancers into experienced performers who achieve their fullest artistic potential.

Additionally, Kingswood Oxford was awarded the Best Choreographer Showcase in the State of Connecticut through the Seven Angels Theater Halo Awards. The school’s Choreographer Showcase program connects dancers to industry professionals throughout the country including Broadway performers, ballet company dancers, athletic dancers, street fusion dancers, and contemporary/modern professionals.

Finally, the school was awarded the Movers and Shakers Award by the Halo Awards. This award is given to a program that is moving the school and others forward by raising the bar, then shaking up the standard of theater programs by providing opportunities that jolt the program and the expectation of others towards success.

Director of Theater Kyle Reynolds said, “While awards are a kind recognition of our accomplishments, I am most interested in, as we say in the theater industry, the work. I am grateful and proud of Frank and all of our students and the theater program; our program is ever expanding and as a result, thriving. If these awards confirm anything for me it’s this: If you are a student who is even the tiniest bit interested in acting, dance, or musical theater – it is more clear than ever that KO is the place to be.”

Kingswood Oxford School is known across the state for its award-winning theater program. In  2020, the school was given the Halo Award for Best Musical in the state of Connecticut. In addition to the fall play and the choreographer showcase programs, it is also home to Broadway@KO, a signature program that creates the opportunity for students to learn from Broadway professionals. Each year, Broadway@KO brings some of the biggest names in showbiz. Students have the opportunity to sing for the critique of experts, learn famous Broadway choreography, and perfect their acting alongside industry professionals.
