Community Service is ongoing at Kingswood Oxford via lunch-time service programs and student-proposed projects.
Middle School Mock Trial: Students learn trial law firsthand by participating in a hypothetical case (as jurists, witnesses, and more) and competing against other Mock Trial teams in the state. Kingswood Oxford works in partnership with Civics First, an organization that promotes law-related education throughout Connecticut.
Venezuelan Host Program. Each January and February, Middle Schoolers welcome visiting students from Venezuela. They serve as “big brothers and sisters,” helping new friends acclimate to the Kingswood Oxford culture and guiding them through their academic, athletic, and extra-curricular activities.
Model UN: Middle School students meet each Wednesday morning to prepare for KOMUN (Kingswood Oxford’s Model UN for Middle Schools), a regional event held in March. Model UN gives students the opportunity to hone their public speaking and debate skills, while they use their expertise to build coalitions and pass resolutions.
Student Government: This student-led group facilitates discussions and decisions about social events, community celebrations, and suggestions for improving the Kingswood Oxford student experience. Student representatives serve at each grade level and as officers on the Student Government Board.
Spotlight: This online creative arts magazine, produced by and for Middle School students, features poetry, fiction, and art.
