Middle School Life at Kingswood Oxford, a private day school

Middle School Life

Building a Well-Rounded Life

Our Middle School curriculum offers students opportunities to explore music, art, sports, robotics, coding, public speaking, writing, and much more! In addition to our rich offerings during the school day, KO offers several co-curricular opportunities for those who are interested in developing critical leadership skills and deepening their own passions.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service is ongoing at Kingswood Oxford via lunch-time service programs and student-proposed projects. We have long standing relationships with nearby Auer Farm in Bloomfield and M.D. Fox Elementary School in Hartford and other endeavors to help make a difference in our community and the world. The importance of being a good citizen and giving back grows in the KO Middle School and deepens further in the Upper School.

MODEL UN

Middle School students meet each Wednesday morning to prepare for KOMUN (Kingswood Oxford’s Model UN for Middle Schools), a regional event held in March. Model UN allows students to hone their public speaking and debate skills while they use their expertise to build coalitions and pass resolutions. Learn more about the KOMUN regional event attended by 800 students from 20 other schools across the state since its founding in 2013.

Leadership Council

This student-led group facilitates discussions and decisions about social events, community celebrations, and suggestions for improving the Kingswood Oxford student experience. We recently switched from a more traditional Student Government Board with elections to this self-nominated Leadership Council model. We believe this shift helps emphasize the communal aspect of the group rather than individual power.

Student Clubs

Clubs help provide opportunities for students to explore their passions and ignite their curiosity in a wide array of interests. Along with a faculty advisor, clubs grant students another way to show initiative, be a leader, and tackle organizational challenges.  Our list of clubs is ever-changing, as the current student population is the driving force behind their existence and strength. Recently, we have had clubs ranging from baking to filmmaking to Rubik’s cube and more!
