A Little Night Music

So much talent, so little time. In order to showcase the copious array of KO musicianship, the creative arts department held a recital night in the intimate setting of Alumni Hall last Friday. Featuring an eclectic assortment of music from Bach to Charlie Parker to Jimi Hendrix, there was something for everyone’s musical taste.

Creative Director Todd Millen added a recital night last year to the creative arts lineup to give those musicians, mostly pianists and guitarists, an avenue to perform. Millen noted that the department also added a chamber music unit with the wind ensemble last year and wanted to provide those musicians a space to perform outside of a Roberts’ concert. This year the school started a Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter at KO, which requires of its membership a yearly public performance. This year’s recital served as a lively condition to the Society.

Millen said, “I am hoping to expand next year and either add some lunchtime recitals or maybe a recital at the end of each sports season just to create more opportunity.” The evening’s program ran approximately 80 minutes.
