What a Difference a Day Makes
KO challenges and engages. KO teaches you to be your authentic self and more importantly, to be the person you were always meant to become.Â
KO pushes you to demand more from yourself. KO opens your mind to new possibilities. Our teachers inspire big ideas and help you follow those ideas.
KO forges relationships with families as partners who understand the essential and enduring importance of family time.
first step: creating your ravenna account!
We use a platform called Ravenna for all of our events and the admissions process. It takes a few minutes to set up and then you are all set moving forward.

What a DifferenceÂ
KO Makes
A School for the Rest of Your Life
Kingswood Oxford is a co-ed independent day school in West Hartford serving academically motivated students in grades 6 – 12. We build partnerships with students and families – empowering students with self-awareness and an understanding of their roles in a community. By establishing foundations of academic mastery and strong character, KO students prepare themselves to seize opportunities and make a positive impact on the world.
Â
Over their time a Kingswood Oxford, our students discover who they are, who they want to be, and all they can accomplish. There is no one size fits all KO student. Each child celebrates success wherever they find it – in the classroom, on the field, or on the stage – and in many cases, a combination of all of their interests. By the time they graduate, KO students are well-equipped to advocate for themselves and tackle challenging coursework in college.
Â
But even more than the strong academic underpinning that KO provides, we develop principle-centered leaders who model and practice living a life of integrity and involvement and “care beyond self.”

Steps for the Application
UPPER SCHOOL
Â
1. Interview
Interviews and campus tours are scheduled online through your Ravenna account. Alternatively, call our office (860-727-5000) to schedule your visit (a Ravenna account is still necessary.)
All interviews will be hosted virtually using the Zoom platform and can be scheduled through your Ravenna account or by calling our office at (860) 727-5000. Interviews are scheduled Mondays through Fridays during school hours. Please plan for about an hour for virtual interviews. The student will meet one on one with an admissions officer. After the student portion, the admissions officer will meet with the parent(s).
Should you have any questions please reach out to us and we would be happy to assist you!
All families are strongly encouraged to visit campus for a student-led tour. You may sign up through your Ravenna account or by calling our offices at (860) 727-5000. If coming to campus for a tour, please plan for approximately 45 minutes.
Â
2. Online Application
While students have a choice of which application to use, all applicants need to set up a Ravenna account in order to schedule a Zoom interview and register for other events, as well as view their admissions decisions.
Upper School applicants (Grades 9, 10, 11) may apply one of two ways. The first is the KO online application and the second is the Standard Application Online*, also known as the SAO. The application fee is $60. The international application fee is $115. (Should your family need financial assistance for the application fee please contact our office at 860-727-5000 to request a fee waiver.)
* For those 9th, 10th, 11th-grade applicants applying via the SAO, you will manage and complete your application here and updates will stream into your Ravenna account. Please note: there may be a slight delay in these updates. You will pay the admissions fee within the SAO once you select Kingswood Oxford as one of the schools receiving the application.
Â
3. Testing
Upper School Applicants (applying to grades 9-11), Kingswood Oxford will be test-optional for the 2021-2022 Admissions Season for Fall 2022 Enrollment.
Â
Applicants may choose to submit standardized testing with their application, others may choose not to do so. Either scenario is acceptable and Kingswood Oxford will continue to perform a holistic review of the applicant’s entire application with or without testing submission. Standardized testing is only one piece in the overall application and in this unique time in our history, we recognize some applicants may have challenges to ensure an optimum testing environment. We feel we must allow for this flexibility in the coming year. For those not submitting standardized test scores, we are asking for an additional teacher recommendation.
- Applicants for 2021-2022 Admissions Season are welcome to submit official SSAT scores, but they will not be required to do so. Please visit www.ssat.org for more information on SSAT testing.
- Applicants who have official PSAT or SAT scores are welcome to submit those official scores, but they are not required.
- Applicants who are unable to take the SSAT, or who choose not to submit their scores, will not be disadvantaged in the application process. *For applicants who are choosing NOT to submit standardized test scores: We are requiring one additional academic recommendation with the application, preferably from the applicant’s current year history or science teacher, but those can also come from the previous year’s English or Math teacher if needed.
For our Upper School international applicants, please visit this page for more information on required testing. Please note that changes to the testing policy are currently applicable only for the 2021-22 admission season for Fall 2022 enrollment.
Â
4. Recommendation Forms
We require three forms as part of our application process: English recommendation form, Math recommendation form, and a Principal/Guidance Counselor Report Form. These recommendation forms can be accessed and managed online through your account and completed by the applicant’s current English and Math teachers. The Principal/Guidance Counselor Report also can be accessed and managed online and should be completed by a school official (i.e. Principal, guidance counselor, advisor, or homeroom teacher).
The Supplemental Recommendation Form is an optional recommendation form that can be completed by a coach, music instructor, or specific subject-matter teacher. Applicants may ask one person to complete a Supplemental Recommendation Form.
For Upper School applicants who are choosing NOT to submit standardized test scores: We are requiring an additional Academic Recommendation Form with the application. This can be accessed in your online account.
Â
5. Transcripts
The Transcript Release Form, which can be accessed and managed through your account, should be completed by a school official (i.e. Principal, guidance counselor, advisor, or homeroom teacher).
